Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to dig deep on Saturday night, leaving it until the absolute dying moments to secure a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Chippa United in an enthralling Betway Premiership clash at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.
For a match that looked destined to end in a smash-and-grab victory for the hosts, a chaotic finish ensured the spoils were shared.
A Tale of Two Halves
The visitors signaled their intent right from the first whistle, putting the Chilli Boys on the back foot during the opening 10 minutes. Pressing predominantly down the right flank, Sundowns tried to unlock the defense through Brayan Leon, though Chippa’s backline held firm.
As the half progressed, however, the momentum shifted. Chippa began finding joy on the counter-attack, with Justice Figuareido proving to be a constant menace. Super-sub Sirgio Kammies made an immediate, dream impact with his very first touch of the match. Following a sharp run down the left flank by Khaya Mfecane, the ball was squared neatly into the box, allowing Kammies to guide a clever finish home with the outside of his foot.

Following a testing cross whipped into the box by Thapelo Morena, the Chippa goalkeeper punched the clearance away from the six-yard area—straight into the path of Antonio Van Wyk.
