DStv Enters a New Era: Canal+ Unveils “Expect+” Rebrand, Simplified Packages, and New Pricing
MultiChoice has officially pulled back the curtain on a brand-new era for DStv. Unveiled at a special event in South Africa, the sweeping overhaul introduces fresh branding featuring the “Expect+” slogan, a streamlined channel lineup, and reworked streaming packages designed to drag the legacy broadcaster into a modern viewing age.
The shake-up comes on the heels of French media powerhouse Canal+ completing its R50 billion-plus acquisition of MultiChoice late last year, followed by an aggressive R1.9 billion “boost plan” aimed at fixing operational hurdles and winning back frustrated subscribers.
Why the Overhaul?
According to MultiChoice CEO Wellington Ngwepe, the previous package structures had been in place for roughly 15 years and simply failed to keep pace with modern streaming habits and viewer expectations.
“We’ve engaged with customers and heard the message loud and clear. They want more value and a simplified offering,” Ngwepe explained. “What we are providing is something built around customer needs, rather than overlapping packages that try to be something for everybody.”
As part of the refresh, DStv is introducing brand-new channels while revamping existing favorites. Entertainment viewers can look forward to additions like Wethu+, alongside strengthened movie offerings such as M-Net Movies+, M-Net Movies Stars, and M-Net Movies Legends. Sports fans will also see several familiar SuperSport tiers renamed and optimized—including SuperSport Football Plus, SuperSport Africa, SuperSport Extra, and SuperSport Extra 2—alongside third-party arrivals like France24 and Church TV.
The New DStv Streaming Packages & Pricing
While traditional Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite pricing remains unchanged for now, DStv is rolling out an entirely revamped, transparent pricing structure specifically for its streaming offerings, officially launching on September 17.
The bloated legacy tiers have been trimmed down to five core packages:
| New Package | Channels | Monthly Price (Streaming) | Key Focus / Highlights |
| Starter | 85 | R99 | A budget-friendly “taster” package featuring basic entertainment and select sports. |
| Select | 100 | R299 | Stepped-up channel count with expanded sports and family content. |
| Sports | 115 | R399 | A dedicated standalone sports tier packing 115 channels of heavy-hitting sporting action plus light entertainment. |
| Movies & Series | 115 | R500 | Dedicated entertainment focus featuring M-Net, kykNET, and M-Net Movies+. |
| Premium | 130 | R799 | The ultimate legacy tier retaining its name, offering the full 130-channel spread. |
Looking Ahead
With a lower barrier to entry—such as the R99 Starter tier and the long-awaited standalone Sports package—Canal+ is clearly bets.ting that aggressive simplification and modern flexibility will staunch the bleeding of traditional TV subscriber
The new packages officially roll out on September 17, 2026. Whether these changes will be enough to satisfy South African cord-cutters remains to be seen, but DStv’s new French leadership is undeniably shaking up the local media landscape.
